NO FCRA USE. New York County Criminal History is privately operated and has no government affiliation. It is not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency. Neither the site nor its advertising partners provides a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
1. What This Website Is
This private reference site is independent of every government office. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves records, performs official checks, or files papers for a user.
Its purpose is to identify the New York County custodians, including NYPD, NYC Department of Correction, New York courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry, while providing access to outside tools that may assist personal research. Agency requests are governed by the New York Freedom of Information Law, while Executive Law §837 defines DCJS criminal-justice information functions and limits the state repository's role.
2. Rules for Using This Site
Use is permitted only if you agree not to:
- Use the website in violation of federal, New York, or local law
- Threaten, stalk, or harass a person with information obtained here
- Use site content for credit, employment, insurance, or housing decisions
- Attempt unauthorized entry into any system or account
- Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
- Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access
3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination
No person may use information from this website or a linked service to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or discriminate. Misuse may also violate law. New York Correction Law Article 6-C governs the New York State Sex Offender Registry, whose information exists for public protection. It does not authorize vigilantism or adverse employment or housing action.
4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency
This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create credit reports, background checks, or consumer reports. Site or linked-tool data must not be used to:
- Decide whether to hire or fire someone
- Screen potential renters or housing applicants
- Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
- Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
- Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules
A lawful regulated check must come from a properly authorized, FCRA-compliant source. DCJS Personal Record Review is a subject-only fingerprint service and is not a public screening tool for another person.
5. No Legal Advice
Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a New York County charge, conviction, warrant, or record-sealing law applies to a specific person. Consult a licensed New York attorney for legal guidance.
6. No Warranties
All content and functions are supplied "as is," without a guarantee that:
- The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
- The site will stay up and running without interruptions
- Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
- Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate
Charges, dispositions, custody status, and record-sealing access can change. Gaps and delays are possible. Nothing published here is an official statement from NYPD, a New York court, NYC Department of Correction, DCJS, or another government office.
7. Third-Party Services and Links
Links lead to government portals and outside services that we do not operate. Each destination controls its own content, privacy practices, prices, terms, and availability. Review those terms before using the external service.
8. Intellectual Property
Text, logos, graphics, and code belong to New York County Criminal History or its content partners. Copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative material requires prior written permission.
9. Limits on Our Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim liability for damages arising from use of the website, its content, or a linked service.
10. Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related legal costs.
11. Governing Law
New York law governs these terms. A dispute arising from website use must be brought in a court located in New York, subject to any controlling jurisdictional rule.
12. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be revised at any time. A revision takes effect when the updated text is posted here.
13. Cutting Off Access
Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, with or without advance notice.
14. Severability
If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions stay in effect. The affected term will be narrowed only as far as needed to make it enforceable.
15. Questions
Questions about these conditions may be directed through the Contact page.
