Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not disclosed outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server receives ordinary technical information about that visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view

No Criminal-Record Data on File
New York County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material points to NYPD, NYC Department of Correction, New York courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a third-party criminal-history file or a consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Data entered there is governed by that provider's privacy policy and retention rules, not solely by this policy. Review those terms before sending a query because we cannot direct how the provider stores or shares it.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to NYPD, court, correction, DCJS, registry, or third-party service pages. The destination's privacy policy applies after you leave this site, so review it before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own technology to recognize activity across websites and select ads. Their systems control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be disclosed only to the service categories needed to operate the site or when law compels it:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for collected data. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, however, and this policy does not promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A verified report that a minor supplied such data will be handled with a deletion request.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights concerning personal data. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6 governs requests to public agencies, not access to data held by this private site. Executive Law §837 defines DCJS criminal-justice information functions and likewise does not turn this website into the state repository. Subject to verification and legal limits, you may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing

This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version becomes available here with its new effective date.
